JAKARTA – Tech giant Xiaomi has officially introduced the global variants of its latest entry-level lineup, the Redmi 17 5G and Redmi 17 4G. Designed to dominate the budget segment, both smartphones boast massive 7,500 mAh batteries and fluid 120Hz displays, with price tags starting around the IDR 2 million range.
While the global iteration of the Redmi 17 5G sports notable differences compared to its previously released Chinese counterpart—most noticeably in its processing engine—both the 4G and 5G models share an identical core design and feature set. They both come equipped with an expansive 6.9-inch screen, a 50 MP AI main camera, a huge 7,500 mAh battery capacity, and run on HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.
Under the hood, the Redmi 17 5G is powered by the 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 internal storage. As its name implies, it delivers next-gen 5G cellular connectivity alongside modern wireless features including NFC and Bluetooth 5.1.
On the other hand, the Redmi 17 4G relies on the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra processor, combined with LPDDR4X RAM, eMMC 5.1 flash storage, and Bluetooth 5.4 support.
Despite the split in processing power, both variants feature a prominent 6.9-inch LCD panel boasting HD+ resolution and a smooth adaptive refresh rate reaching up to 120Hz. The screen reaches up to 825 nits of peak brightness in High Brightness Mode (HBM), protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and holds TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker-free rendering, and circadian-friendly usage.
One of the stand-out highlights of the duo is undoubtedly their massive 7,500 mAh battery capacity. Supporting 45W fast wired charging, both smartphones also feature 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing users to utilize their phone as a portable power bank to charge other gadgets.
For optics, the rear housing accommodates an AI-powered 50 MP main camera set up in a dual-camera module, while an 8 MP front sensor handles selfies and video calls.
Enhancing the media experience, Xiaomi has integrated dual stereo speakers capable of boosting volume up to 300%. The smartphones also carry an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, side-mounted fingerprint scanners, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual SIM capability, microSD expansion, and virtual RAM expansion up to 12 GB.
Both devices ship out of the box running Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS 3 built on top of Android 16.
Regarding market availability, the Redmi 17 5G has officially hit store shelves in Malaysia. The 4GB + 128GB configuration is priced at MYR 769 (approx. IDR 2.8 million), while the 4GB + 256GB variant sells for MYR 869 (approx. IDR 3.2 million).
For broader global markets, the Redmi 17 5G starts at USD 249 (approx. IDR 4.5 million), with additional memory options including 6GB + 128GB and 6GB + 256GB. It is available in three colorways: Black, Deep Blue, and Vivid Orange.

Xiaomi has yet to formally confirm an official release date for the Indonesian market. However, following its global launch, Indonesian tech enthusiasts are eagerly waiting to see if this powerhouse battery duo will arrive locally soon.
Traditionally, entry-level smartphones ship with standard 5,000 mAh battery cells. By introducing a 7,500 mAh battery with 45W fast charging in a sub-IDR 3 million device, Xiaomi is setting a new endurance standard for everyday users, gig economy workers, and mobile gamers who prioritize multi-day battery life over flagship performance.
Launching straight out of the box with Android 16-based HyperOS 3 gives the Redmi 17 series a competitive edge in longevity and software optimization. The updated operating system brings improved RAM management, streamlined UI aesthetics, and better background process efficiency—ensuring that the massive battery capacity delivers maximum battery efficiency.
